Privacy Policy

Orbit GPS by robotdash studios · Effective October 17, 2026

The short version: Orbit GPS does not collect, store, sell or share any of your personal information. Your location is used on your phone to guide you, and it never leaves your phone. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.

Location

Orbit GPS uses your phone's GPS to show where you are on the map and to give turn-by-turn directions. All of this happens on your device. Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else.

While you are navigating, Orbit GPS keeps using your location in the background, for example with the screen off or another app open, so it can keep giving you directions. A notification is shown whenever this is happening, and it stops when you end navigation or arrive.

Maps, routing and search

Maps, routes and place search all work offline from region files stored on your phone. Searching for a place or planning a route does not send anything over the internet.

When you download a region, the files come from our download server at maps.orbitgps.ca, run on Cloudflare. Like any website, it receives your device's internet address and which file is requested, so the download can be delivered. It does not receive your GPS location, and we don't use these records to identify or track anyone.

If no offline map has been loaded, the app may download map images from a public map server (OpenFreeMap) to display the map. That server receives your device's internet address and which map area is being viewed. It does not receive your GPS location.

Saved places and settings

Home, Work, favourites, recent destinations and your settings are stored only on your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes them. They are not backed up or sent anywhere by Orbit GPS.

Android Auto

When used with Android Auto, Orbit GPS shows its map and directions on your car's screen. The same rules apply: nothing is collected or shared.

Permissions

Location: to show your position and give directions.
Notifications: to show the "navigating" notification so guidance can continue in the background.
Internet: to download offline region files, to show the online map when no offline map is loaded, and to open the optional Ko-fi support page in your browser.

This website

orbitgps.ca uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Fonts are served from this site. Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as internet address and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.

Donations

The app and this site include an optional link to our Ko-fi page. Any donation is handled entirely by Ko-fi under its own privacy policy. We never process payments.

Children

Orbit GPS does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
